Lampwork Glass

Lampwork Glass

Lampworking is a technique where a torch is used to heat & melt glass. Once the glass is in a molten state, it can be manipulated to create different shapes. In very simple terms, beads are made on a mandrel (a central rod) & the bead is built up around the mandrel using different techniques.
The term ‘lampworking’ comes from when the glass used to be heated using oil lamps. Although oil lamps are no longer used, the name has stuck. Our lampwork glass beads are handmade by a range of talented artisans from around the UK & Europe.
Despite being made of glass, jewellery made from lampworked beads is not as fragile as you might imagine & will stand up to the rigors of everyday wear, just like any other piece of jewellery. But you should still be kind to your jewellery.
